To Mothers Living with Chronic Pain: Here’s to You
We all know that mothers are superheroes: they lift us up (physically and emotionally!), care for us and protect us. When Mother’s Day comes around each May, we thank our moms for all that they do and hope to give them a day of relaxation and celebration. Every day at NeuroMetrix, we hear from mothers living with chronic pain. For them, carrying out the typical “mom” tasks — managing school pickup and drop off, making it to watch their child’s soccer game on a rainy day or helping to keep the household in order — can be even more challenging. Mothers living with chronic pain often experience worry and fear that their condition is causing them to miss out on the fleeting moments of their family’s lives.
These issues aren’t just limited to mothers. Recent research has uncovered key differences between how men and women experience pain. According to some researchers, women experience chronic pain more intensely than men with similar conditions, and women are more likely to experience multiple painful conditions simultaneously, which can bring on greater psychological distress. We all know that pain is personal and varies among individuals. While we understand that pain doesn’t discriminate based on age, gender, nationality or otherwise, we recognize that women and mothers are experiencing pain in a different way.
Because of that – and in recognition of Mother’s Day and Women’s Health Week – we are celebrating women and mothers living with chronic pain. We hope that by using a variety of treatment options – including new technology solutions, such as Quell – that you’re able to find relief. We’re inspired by you, and strive to deliver the best product and technology available so that you don’t have to miss out on any of life’s most precious moments.
